Discipleship Opportunities

Welcome to the Nominations Page of the Conference of Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario. Or, as we like to think of it, the place where you can discover new and amazing opportunities for discipleship in your life…

Is that how it feels when you go looking for volunteers in your Congregation, your Pastoral Charge or your Presbytery? Or are you in one of these wonderful situations of having more than enough capable and willing folk to do the work of the church in your location?

We at the Nominations Committee have been wondering: how do we as a church ease ourselves out of the extreme end where we will grab anyone, new, old, cranky, cheerful, gifted or not, just to say we have someone attending to a particular need for the work of the church? How do we move into a deeper, richer pattern of inspiring folk to recognize their gifts and talents for service in the Body of Christ and then equip them to live out those gifts?

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we had a nice little answer here for you?

Fortunately, we don’t. “Fortunately” because, in fact, those answers will come as we explore this question in prayer, study and discussion. And whatever the outcome of such work, we know that when Christians gather to engage the Spirit of God in looking for answers, the process itself becomes a gift, whatever the outcome!

So, we don’t have a “nice little answer” for you. What we do have is a tool, a Spiritual Gifts Inventory that was developed by United Church folk in B.C. Maybe you’ve seen such things before; the beauty of this one is, having been developed within the United Church itself, you’ll likely find yourself at home with its language and categories.

If you are already familiar with your gifts, click here to discover ways you can further your discipleship in Jesus Christ within the Conference of Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario: Opportunities for Service

If you would like to do some exploring and gain more clarity on the gifts God has given you, click here: Spiritual Gifts Descriptions. Of course you know that, being the Nominations Committee for the Conference, we are hoping that you will discover you have gifts that you are willing to live out in the context of the work of MNWO.
    No kidding, right?

We also want to encourage you to use the Gifts Inventory to open up avenues of discipleship for yourself at other avenues of church life: your Presbytery, your Pastoral Charge, and in your Congregation.

Let us know, too, what personnel needs exist in your local situation. Tell us what kind of people your Nominations folk are looking for, what positions you’re needing to fill, the successes you have in filling them as well as the challenges you meet, so that we might pray with you as you do that work. We would, in turn, ask that you also pray for the work of Nominations for the Conference. Prayers and prayer requests can go by email to office@confmnwo.mb.ca .

While it is perfectly true that the Body of Christ needs people for its work, it is also true that we, the people of the Body, have a deep need to answer the call of God in Christ, to live into his ministry. God has created and is creating gifts within you that will enable you to deepen your life of discipleship and faith for yourself and for the wider church. Will you come and see?
